Railway Heritage Working Group

Following the «Railway Heritage Preservation Conference 2022» and the subsequent publication of its documentation at the end of 2024, an international working group was established. The group addresses theoretical and methodological questions relating to authenticity, integrity and transformational value and is jointly developing the «Principles for Railway Heritage». The Principles are expected to be published at the end of 2026.

NEWSLETTER 06

Content: The documentation volume of the conference «Railway Heritage» has been published by Schwabe. The approximately 450-page book, featuring contributions from 50 international authors, provides an overview of current topics, challenges and strategies in railway heritage.

Content: The presentations from the conference are now available as videos on the ETH Zurich video platform. Links to the individual presentations and digital contributions can be found on the conference website.

Content: The conference will take place as planned from June 23–25, 2022. There are some changes to the program, including an invitation to a rich apéro on Thursday evening. Additionally, participants are reminded to register for the Saturday side program at the reception desk during the conference, as space is also limited for these activities.

Content: The conference program is now available on the website, and registration for the conference is open. Space is limited, and registrations will be processed in the order received. The event will be simultaneously translated into German, French, and English.

Content: Due to the developments in the Covid-19 pandemic and associated protective measures, the conference must be postponed. The new dates for the event are June 23–25, 2022. Further information on the program content and registration will be provided in upcoming newsletters. Link to the communiqué.

Communiqué on the date postponement:
The conference, originally planned for November 2021, has been postponed to allow for personal exchange and the desired discussions, which cannot be adequately ensured through virtual or reduced formats. The new dates coincide with the anniversary year of “175 Years of Swiss Railways,” providing an appropriate framework for the event.

Content: The Call for Papers for the conference on railway heritage conservation is announced and is now available on the website. From the end of July, interested parties can register for the conference. Further details on the conference program will be provided in a later newsletter. The conference was originally planned for November 25–27, 2021.
